CLUE 2a
Husky Lounge

After spending a half hour in the Husky Lounge or "the Husk", "Husky", and "the Lounge" as many students refer to it, I noticed things I had never noticed before. It may be because I was actually observing the environment instead of just being there for lunch, absorbed with my own life and friends, and not noticing others. The first thing I noticed which had to be the most obvious was how busy it was. That lead me to believe how similar students have lunch times throughout the school. They all get out of class and come directly to lunch. Many of them didn't even take the time to drop off their backpack, maybe because they are too busy and don't have enough time, or they're going to another class after they eat. My next observation was how many students come right in, got their food, and walked right out. Did they have another class to hurry to? Did they need to go do work? Where they meeting up with people at another location? Or maybe they don't have anyone to eat with, and don't want to eat alone? So many questions were running through my mind of why they rushed out so quickly. Next, I noted how many students came in huge groups of people for lunch. They all either sat around a round table pulling up extra chairs, or they all gathered in one of the two giant booths. A central idea of college came to mind. Yes, everyone goes to class, does homework, and studies, but i believe socializing is the biggest part of school. Even when I did my time diaries I noticed how much time students will spend socializing with friends, watching movies, watching tv, and so on. Lunch is "free time" during the day, and many took advantage of it. I also noticed they did not just sit there for twenty minutes. They were there when I arrived, and were still their carrying on after I left.
